PDF BOM to Excel

PDF BOM to Excel, with the checks in the workbook

The workbook holds the normalized BOM, the generic upload sheet, and a Checks sheet that lists every mismatch with the lines involved. It is built in your browser from the same result you see in the grid.

Definition

What a PDF BOM to Excel conversion is

A PDF BOM to Excel conversion extracts the BOM table from a PDF and delivers it as a workbook. BOMParser also reads the table as a BOM: headers are mapped, designator ranges expanded, quantities compared with the designator count, and the findings are written into the workbook next to the data.

The .xlsx file is assembled in the browser. SheetJS is fetched only when you press the XLSX button; the CSV, JSON and report exports work without it.

Steps

From PDF to workbook

  1. Upload the PDF

Drop the file on the pad. Free: 1 file per day, up to 10 pages, no account.

  2. Read the grid

Rows with a quantity that differs from the designator count are marked. Use the Flagged filter to see only the rows that need a decision.

  3. Press XLSX

The workbook is built from the view you have selected: as printed, or merged by MPN when the file has duplicate MPNs.

  4. Open the Checks sheet

Filter its status column for warn. Each row names the lines to look at in the BOM sheet.

FAQ

PDF BOM to Excel questions

What is in the Excel workbook?

Four sheets. BOM has the ten normalized columns. Upload (generic) has qty, mpn, manufacturer and ref_des for populated lines with an MPN. Checks lists every check with its status, detail and the lines involved. Summary has the totals.

Why not copy the table from the PDF viewer into Excel?

Copying from a PDF viewer often puts a whole row in one cell or splits one cell across rows, and it leaves page headers and footers in the data. It also does nothing about ranges like R5-R8, so the designator count is still yours to check.

Does the workbook contain formulas?

No. Cells hold text and numbers only. Text that starts with = stays text, so nothing printed in a PDF can run as a formula when you open the file.

Why does the XLSX button load a script from another site?

The workbook is built in your browser with SheetJS. The library is fetched from the jsDelivr CDN only when you press the XLSX button, with an integrity hash, and your BOM is not sent anywhere in the process. The CSV, JSON and report exports do not use it.

Excel turns some of my part numbers into dates or numbers. Why?

Excel converts values such as 1E5 or 5-10 when it opens a CSV. The XLSX stores part numbers as text, so use it when that matters. If you open the CSV, use Data, From Text/CSV and set the part-number columns to Text.

Is there one sheet per PDF page?

No. Tables on all pages are joined into one BOM sheet, and repeated header rows are dropped. The parser notes say how many were skipped.

Does it keep the colors and formatting of the PDF?

No. Only the content of the table is read. Strike-through, highlighting and cell colors in the PDF are not carried over, so mark DNP lines in a DNP column or in words before you print to PDF.

Which spreadsheet programs open the file?

The file is a standard .xlsx workbook, so spreadsheet programs that read .xlsx should open it. The workbook is generated by SheetJS and has not been tested here against every program.

Does XLSX count against my free allowance?

No. The allowance counts the PDF you upload. Every export, including XLSX, comes from the same conversion and is built in your browser.

What if the XLSX button fails?

The page shows a message. The most common cause is a network that blocks the CDN. The CSV exports do not depend on it, and you can open the CSV in Excel.
